Point Program
This platform implements a points function to evaluate, as fairly and equitably as possible, contributions to the platform—beginning with data provision—and to grant points that can be used on the platform, in accordance with certain criteria, for users’ activities on the platform and for the value that those activities are presumed to generate thereafter.
At the pilot stage (recognition begins after the pilot launch; actual point granting is scheduled to start six months or more after launch), only the minimum set of functions related to point granting will be available. As usage expands, we plan to broaden the ways points can be used.
Point Granting
Points are granted retrospectively for the following actions.
Disclosure
- Uploading source data (e.g., PDFs) or providing links and other information. Points are granted for providing data sources.
- Ingesting data by using the platform’s functions. Points are granted for entering data.
- Verifying the accuracy of data (can be performed only by the data owner). By confirming data accuracy and making it “Official,” points are granted.
- Providing useful data. Points are granted according to the importance and usefulness of the disclosed data (evaluation criteria described later).
Discussion and Verification
- Voting: Participating in votes. If a response is judged appropriate and effective, points are granted.
- Forum: Posting in forums (experts, certification bodies, etc. who are invited to participate). If a response is judged appropriate and effective, points are granted.
- External certification / external data: Providing certifications or data (when the provider specifies or accepts all or part of such provision). If the certification content or provided data is deemed valid, points are granted.
Using Points
Points earned can be used in whole or in part in the following situations (to be built out sequentially):
- Fees for services within this platform (e.g., paid functions).
- Rights to a share of revenues and assets earned by the platform as a whole (a lock-up period will be set for a certain duration).
- Discounts for co-located services (e.g., Sustainable EC).
Reviewing Weights
At the initial stage, the weights for each action are set with attention to the following:
- The typical amount of resources required for each action.
- The importance to the community (all platform participants or specific subsets).
Overview of the Scoring Logic
For impact-related data uploaded to the platform, scoring is conducted from the perspectives below:
Availability
Whether the information is broadly available to the community.
- Quantity of views/references.
- Quality of views/references.
- Whether it has been referenced by important organizations or individuals.
- The breadth of organizations/fields that referenced it.
Usefulness
Whether the information is meaningful to the community.
- The length of time the information remains valid/usable.
- The breadth of coverage (e.g., subjects, regions).
- The degree of integration (e.g., raw data, statistical information).
- Freshness (time since last update).
- The degree/status of verification and certification.
Uniqueness / Novelty
Whether the information is new to the community.
- Whether similar information exists.
