Introduction
This platform is founded on the principle of being “open.” The sharing of prior cases and information, as well as comprehensive data analysis in the context of social issues, is one of the most critical factors for increasing the likelihood and speed of problem-solving. The database aggregating such information constitutes an important public good for addressing social challenges. At the same time, initiatives aimed at impact creation to tackle social issues are highly diverse, and there is no uniform methodology. Historically, these efforts have been considered burdensome. To remove such barriers to problem-solving, this platform has been established.
Concept: 3OPENs
OPEN Access
Basic browsing, evaluation, and disclosure are provided free of charge.
OPEN User
Essentially anyone—companies, investors, or organizations—can participate.
OPEN Knowledge
Designed for use across various levels and purposes, the platform allows for a wide range of frameworks, methods, and approaches.
Meanwhile, movements to strategically leverage impact creation and social issue resolution within corporate, organizational, or investment activities are gaining momentum. Such strategic use implies more resources—capital, human talent, and information—being directed toward social problem-solving, which is overall beneficial for society. However, as strategic use increases, it becomes difficult to delineate which areas within this domain are non-competitive (public goods) versus competitive (strategic). Against this background, this platform (at least at launch) does not assume the following roles:
What Platform Does Not Cover
Defining frameworks or standards on its own initiative
Multiple frameworks already exist from prior work, and new ones are expected to evolve in alignment with disclosure regulations and initiatives. The platform’s role is that of an implementer, not a developer. The creation and dissemination of frameworks remain with the relevant organizations. However, using the platform to collect practical information and develop better frameworks or standards is encouraged.
Supporting strategic use by individual companies, organizations, or individuals
Since what constitutes a strategic area varies widely, any functions that directly support such strategic use (e.g., enabling large-scale or complex information management at lower cost and effort to enhance ROI of initiatives) are offered separately as a paid service (but available to connect with this platform; see https://platform.impactlake.com for details).
Providing matchmaking or specific information on particular domains at the platform’s discretion
The platform is a space where stakeholders and data are active participants. Promotion of specific themes, organizations, or activities is not assumed at this stage. These activities can be conducted voluntarily by users, and while the platform may serve as an infrastructure to facilitate such engagement, it will not proactively execute or support them.
